Family and ownership
When a man marries a women, he buys her and has to pay in cows or KES. Now wife is his ownership and belongs to his family (she is out of her family and cant't go back). So parents do often count only their sons. When husband dies, she cannot go back to her family because she belongs to his family. His family has to worry of her security. It can be possible, that his brothers or cousin will marrie the widow and now got 2,3,4, ... wifes. Polygamie is allowed in Kenya. And they have troubles to unserstand our culture and family structures.
Country
Kenya has much fruitful ground and for that reason many farmers to cultivate this land with vegetables, grain, sugarplants and fruits. And you can see a lot of small farms with animals: cows, goats, sheeps, ... no pigs. When a father dies, he split his ground to trasmit it to his sons (not daughtes). The proberty shrinks more and more, problems to feed the family will grow. Nobody has to famish. They have enough to eat a lot of different things and to leave always rests of meals on their plates to throw away.
In the steppes life goes other ways. The Massai have no fenced property. Massai Mara is their land and they get around with their animals. And Governement take guard of their culture and let them go their way.

Food and drink
Food (and all housework) will be done from wifes. Man is hunting or earns money!
Wife will serve soap and water nearby dish to wash hands in a basin. Praying before and after meals (and much more other opportunities) is normal.

At the coast they eat much fish (Tillapia - delicate), inland more meat. Often with cabbage (Sukuma), but always with Ugali (made with cornmeal from maiz). Sometimes rice. To spice the meals they use salt. Bread is white. And fruits tastes very intensive, because they can mature on trees/bushes, like Bananas, Mangos, Ananas,
Kenians do not use cutlery - they eat with their fingers!
Kenians are beerdrinkers. Typical kenian beer is Tusker, but they like to drink also Guiness.
In the MTTC alcohol and smoking is forbidden! So we drank a lot of water.

Migori - town and market
Supermarkets are rarely, everyone sells his things in small business next to street. Farmers their fruits and vegetables, others make garages to repait cars, motorbikes and bycicles. Motorbikes and bycicles are the taxis for everybody, everywhere. Cars are not able to go out of mainstreet. Furnitures are "hand-made", because the human work is cheap. We saw a lot of clothes second hand and being recycled, for example shoes made out of tires.
Trash lies everywhere. Trash removel does not exist. At homes you can find fireplaces they burn their trash, also plastic.

Traffic
There are few freeways and few mainroads they are tarred. Traffic signs and lines on the street you van see only in towns. They have traffic lights but do not respect them. Why? And everytime and everywhere can be big holes on streets can disturb vehicles and bumps to reduce speed. They are so distinctly that you can hear vehicles touch and go often. There are many mainroads without tar, set up only with earth rain will wash out deep ditches. Side roads are often impassable to go with cars. Therefore many of peoples use motorbikes and bicycles.
We think it is dangerous to go there, for Kenians it is normal.

Kenians are individualists, only looking and thinking about themselves and not to others.
We learn to look at the weekest. In Kenya it is normal, that the strongest wins. All others road users have to quibble! To show them they use very often the horn.
Order of force in traffic
It is allowed to make driving licence when you are over 18! "lol"
We think we are not able and do not want to drive on Kenians roads.

A Manyatta is the typical house for Massai. Each son gets his own house. 18 sons (daughters?) lifes in that small village with the with their wifes and childrens and ... There were many peoples around. Their Manyattas are built in a circle around in order to provide security from the wild animals. Inside the circle there are also their cows, sheeps and much more other animals. They are living all together. A Manyatte is built with sticks and soil and cowdung. Dark, without windows and it smells like ... We got our meal outside at the fire. We go to bed early. We sleeped on the same materiel house is mad with.
